I used Pink Paislee's "London Market"collection and one paper called Remember, from Carta Bella's Beautiful Moments collection for these two pieces. I wanted it to have a music theme as my mother-in-law plays the piano and loves music.
The main card is black cardstock, then Carta Bella Remember paper, and on top of that Pink Paislee paper that was embossed with Sizzix's Book Cover Texture Fade. I lightly inked the raised areas and matted with the backside of the Remember paper. Next I diecut an oval scallop with my Sizzix Oval Framelit with a paper from the London Market Collage Sheets pack. I wanted to keep the butterfly and have it come off the scallop a bit, so I cut along the edge of the butterfly before I diecut my oval, and lifted it above the framlit so it would not be cut off. I then fussy cut some flowers and leaves from the patterned paper, and diecut flowers using Sizzix's Tattered Pinecone and Tattered Flower Garland dies.
The music note is cut from the Sizzix Sheet Music Sizzlit die. I used metal foil tape adhered first to smooth cardstock before I cut out the diecut.
After my music piece was cut out, I sanded it to scratch it up, then painted the foil piece with black paint and let dry. I then sanded it lightly again to expose some of the silver underneath, then inked with Forest Moss distress ink. I wiped a few areas lightly, and then heat set it.
Adhere all your flowers and the music sheet, add in a sentiment (this "Just Because" is a Kaiser rub-on) and it's done.
The Gift box was decorated with the same dies, but I added some bling from Prima. I first painted the entire paper mache box and drawer with Black Gesso. This way I didn't have to worry about bringing the paper right to the edges, especially with the drawer opening and closing. I lined the drawer bottom and sides with London Market Paper. The front, back and sides were also covered with London Market. The end of the drawer, was covered with a piece of a London Market collage sheet which had the title, Musical Evening that fit perfect. After looking at these photos, I should mention that the book box is about 5" by 4" and 2 1/2" wide (it looks bigger in the photo) and the card is 5" x 7".
I had fun covering that box, I think I should try and find another one!
Until next time,
Jan
