Sizzix "Thanks" Card Tutorial

I haven't been around as much as I would like lately. Seems like I always start the beginning of the month with lots of ideas and plans, and then I blink and it's the end of the month.  Time is going too fast lately and I'm having a hard time keeping up!

I've had a few extra projects to do this month, so I'm not getting to that long list.  Hopefully next month??  Hmmm….  I do have a card here today, showing off the new Sizzix Tim Holtz Tiny Tattered Florals Thinlits Set and Watering Can Bigz die.

This Floral Thinlits set comes with 8 different flowers, 7 leaves and it's own quilling tool.  Love this set, I know it will be used over and over.  To cut out these dies, my Sizzix sandwich was, Magnetic platform, Sizzix Precision base plate (this takes the place of a clear cutting pad), paper, die (facing down so you are cutting into the metal plate for a sharper cut), and clear cutting pad.  There's a little slot in your quilling tool to place the outside end of your paper die-cut flower coil into, and then you just wrap the rest around.  The end (that's in the center) is glued to the bottom of your wrapped flower.  I usually use my hot glue gun for these type of flowers, they never come undone.

  I also like to run my stylus tool along the back of the petals to give them some shape before wrapping.  For those of you who haven't used a stylus on your flowers, it's a tool with a ball on the end and when rubbed on the back of your petal, shapes it beautifully.  I use the Sizzix Garden Tool kit (658437), it has three different sizes of stylus plus the one with loops on each end which is great for leaves and the edge of petals.  On the other end of the smallest stylus is a curved pointed tool which is awesome for scoring the veins on leaves.   Lightly ink the edges, and build your flowers.

This watering can is so cute!  It's smaller than I though it would be, which is great for cards.  It's about 3" high and 4" from handle to spout.  I first cut it out with Tim Holtz Grunge Paper, (Sizzix Sandwich - cutting pad, die, paper, cutting pad) and then embossed the can with the Sizzix Tim Holtz Mesh Embossing folder.  The band across the can, was embossed with  the Tim Holtz Dotted Bullseye Embossing folder.

Once my two pieces were embossed, I painted them with Tarnished Brass Distress paint.  Once that was dry, I painted randomly with Black Soot Distress paint, rubbing some off with a baby wipe.  For the can, I sprayed a bit of Brushed Pewter Distress spray, then highlighting the raised areas with Antique Linen  and Gathered Twig Distress Paint.  For the band, I sprayed, Aged Mahogany Distress paint, rubbing off a bit with the wipe, then highlighting the raised areas with Tarnished Brass paint.

I adhered the band to the front of the watering can.  

The paper I used for my card is from Blue Fern Studios and it's their collection called, "Love Story".  The frame is from one of the papers (Calling Cards) that is all journalling cards.  This was pop-dotted on black cardstock and then adhered to another patterned paper mat(Sweet Song), then the card base(Twenty One).  I used this Twenty One paper for my flowers also plus a light pink cardstock.  I added in the die-cut black cardstock"thanks"from the Tim Holtz Thinlits set, Handwritten Celebrate.
I adhered the watering can, then my flowers, and leaves to my card and I was finished.  To give the watering can more dimensional shape, I used a couple of pop dots in the center and then flat sookwang tape on the edges.
