I don't know....

where this month went!  It's already nearing the end, and I think this is the first day I've had off that I don't have to go anywhere or have a long list of things I have to do.  Well, maybe there are things I should be doing, but they can wait until tomorrow.  I had signed up for Tim Holtz's Creative Chemistry online class and have watched the videos everyday, but haven't had a chance to play.  So, with my morning coffee and the house to myself, I retreated to my craft room.  My husband is out of town for a couple of days...you know what that means...a lot of scrapbook time and cooking meals is not a priority!  I was inspired by the colors and techniques he used in one of the tags, so this is my Day 7 tag:

The background is Evergreen Bough Distress ink (This is one of my favorites-it's one of his seasonal three pack inks) and various brown distress inks with clear embossing powder.  I also used Pink Paislee's new line, "Spring Jubilee" paper, rub-ons, and chipboard.  The doily is  Sizzix's Tim Holtz on the edge Tattered Doily.  The music stamp is from Glitz.  I guess I should now go back to the beginning and create tags from the previous days!
I don't think it's too late to register for this class (you have a lifetime access), there is lots of info and techniques using all the different inks, sprays, powders, and other mediums, that Tim uses.

Also, here's a birthday card I made last week:

I used papers, chipboard, heart button and flowers from Prima's new "Almanac" collection,  The letters are also from Prima.  For the base of the card and the pink embossed diecut, I used Tim Holtz Kraft-Core cardstock.  I've been using this cardstock more and more, love the colors and the look when it's been distressed.  The house and tree border was created using a Memory Box die called Country Landscape.  After I cut it out, it was embossed with the lace border from a Sizzix Valentine & Borders embossing folder.  The large brad was from My Mind's Eye.
I'm off to my messy room to create more tags!  Have a great week!

It's a new month and that means...

time for a new layout for Urban Scrapbook's monthly challenge.   October Afternoon's "Farmhouse" papers and embellishments were in the kits this month, along with a great sketch by Lynette.  Check out Urban's website to see what fantastic layouts everyone came up with!  Here's mine:

When my husband and I were in P.E.I. this fall, we went to see the Anne of Green Gables historical site.  We couldn't resist putting on this "Anne" wig and hat and taking our photos for our daughter.  She was born with beautiful auburn red hair and someone is always asking, "who did she get the red hair from?" (none of us have red hair)  Now she can say she got it from both her parents!  When she was little, Anne of Green Gables was one of our favorite shows to watch together.
We also had some Wendy Vecchi chipboard pieces in our kits, which I love.  I had the large head, which I wasn't sure about at first, but after I kept layering paper and altering it, I'm glad I had it.  I added some ink, Distress stain, and Rock Candy, a flower made of Glassine Paper and the Tim Holtz tattered flowers die, Tim Holtz film strip and a Prima crochet button.  The pin in the kit was from 7Gypsies, which I hung my buttons from.  The kits are for sale at Urban, but I'm sure they won't last long!

I also made a tag and card last week, using We R Memory Keeper's Easter line, called Cotton Tail.  There hasn't been very many Easter themed papers in the last couple of years, so it was nice to see this line.

For the card, I used the center part of the diecut paper (it also has a nice woodgrain pattern on the back) and with glue and sookwang tape, added glitter around the edges.  The pink diecut was cut out with my Sizzix Tim Holz Hanging Sign die, with Cotton Tail rub-ons added.  I then hand cut the shape a little larger with green cardstock to mat it. Where there were two holes in the diecut, I kept the circles and just glued them in, you can barely see them. The flowers and swirls were made using the Sizzix Tim Holtz Pinecone, Vintage Lace, and the Festive Greenery strip dies.  The flower with the big brad was hand cut from the Bunny Trail paper.  The egg and bunny were rub-ons that I put on white cardstock and pop dotted.

I made this tag with my well used Tim Holtz Tag die and glossy paper.  Next I used my Sizzix Springtime border texture fade set.  This set has one large texture folder and three thin border ones.  The butterflies were a thin border, which I just embossed three times at different widths on the edge of my tag.  The grass was also a thin border, which I used along the bottom.  I think I will be using this set a lot!  After I finished embossing, I lightly sanded the raised areas.  Next comes the fun part!  Using Spun Sugar and Milled Lavender distress inks, I inked the butterflies and around that area.  Where you have sanded, it is darker, highlighting the butterflies.  Then, I inked the grass and background with various colors of greens (I think I used Evergreen Bough, Bundled Sage, Pine Needles and a little bit of Iced Spruce) which when inking, I go back and forth using the different colors, using my foamies.  I love how the glossy paper takes the ink and when blended together it is so subtle!  I cut out the purple butterflies with Tim's On the Edge Butterfly die using WRMK's Cotton Tail paper. Then using a left over piece of Cotton Tail diecut paper, I pop dotted that overtop.   The pattered paper and book paper butterflies were cut out using the Movers & Shapers mini Butterflies and On the Edge Butterfly dies.  I have zip lock bags full of butterflies cut from old book paper and flowers cut from tissue paper, and book paper.  I die cut them out one night while I was watching T.V., it's so handy to have them already cut out and you can make them any color with ink.  I backed my tag with patterned paper, and the "spring" word is with letters from Authentique.  I added some ribbon and I was done!
That's all for today, have a great weekend!
