Hi everyone! I'm back with part two of my Christmas sleigh project! Once you have your sleigh assembled from my previous tutorial, you can follow along here for embellishing inspiration.
To make the little ornament box, I covered the inside of the smallest Vignette Box(TH93279) with plaid paper from Christmas Mini Paper Stash(TH93988). The small Christmas Vignette Box Top(TH94000) will go over this after the box is filled.
To make my ornaments, I coloured Idea-ology Baubles(TH93749) with Alcohol Ink. After colouring them with your chosen colour, add a bit of Mushroom ink to the container and shake them around; giving them a vintage mottled look. Ring Fasteners were added to the tops of a few baubles(just clip the the fastener ends a bit so they don't stick out) with glue. The other baubles have a painted Hardware Head (TH93788) glued to the top. A Christmas Token (TH93997) highlighted with red distress paint, ribbon, Sizzix Large Funky Festive greenery(664221) and alcohol inked Bead Berries(TH93779) complete my embellishments.
Adhere these to the inside of your box. I also added a bit of spanish moss inside. I didn't put anything in the one corner, as this covered by the box top.
I also added a small piece of Mica in the corner to look like torn cellophane. I bought mine from US Artquest (Amazon).
Next, I placed where I was going to put the ornament box and tree, as a guideline for adding my snow. I took the small wood base of my tree so I could glue it down and cover with snow. The tree can be put back in the hole.
I used a scrap of chipboard to replace the box, when creating my snow piles. In doing this, I can just glue down the box after and the snow will be up against it. First build up the snow using grit paste (TDA53422) and while it is wet, add in Clear Rock Candy Glitter(TDR35879) and Distress Mica Flakes (TDR69140). You can see the tree base under the snow, make sure you leave the hole open for the tree!
I added some foliage die-cut from Sizzix Large Funky Festive Thinlits set(664221) and a tree slice. This tree slice is for the Transparency baseboard to sit on.
Here's a photo where all my foliage is placed before the box and tree are added.
For the picture behind my Transparency baseboard, I took a sticker from the Christmas Sticker Book(TH93999) and glued it onto a large piece of cardstock that fit behind the baseboard. I applied a thin coat of Collage Medium Crazing (TDA47957). This medium drys translucent with a very subtle crackle matte finish. After it dried, I applied a small amount of Distress Crayon and rubbed it into the cracks. I then applied clear embossing ink(Emboss It Dabber EMB34162) and clear embossing powder to the whole piece. I reapplied the powder a few times, to give it a thicker coat. Once this had cooled down, I bent the paper slightly to crack the embossed piece. It gives the appearance of shattered glass.
Here's my finished piece with the scene, behind the distressed baseboard(Christmas Layers and Baseboard FramesTH94017).
This is adhered on top of the tree ring, just to give it some height at the top.
I coloured my woodland tree with Distress Spray Stains. The darker colour on top and the lighter on the bottom. Distress Glitter and Mica Flakes were added to these later and a small metal star(TH93562) on top. To finish off the tree, add on some Metallic Droplets(TH94016) that were antiqued with a bit of Mushroom Alcohol Ink.
For the inside of my Snowglobe (TH94015), I took a coloured mini Woodlands tree and cut out a chipboard base the size of the inside of the globe base. Glue to this base and fill in under the tree with grit paste and glitter. Just make sure the globe will still fit over this.
Next I took a sticker with the little girls from the Christmas Sticker Book(TH93999) and cut out this section. This was adhered around the tree snow base.
A bit of clear Rock Candy Crackle Paint(TDC31888) on the top inside of the globe was added. The base was painted with Distress Candied Apple paint and a bit of Christmas Design Tape(TH94004) with a metal acorn adornment(TH93990) tied with thread. Adhere the lid to the base. Snow was added in front of the globe after it was adhered to the ornament box.
For the snowballs, I just covered Baubles (TH93749) with Grit Paste and a bit of Distress Rock Candy Glitter. I also added some Grit Paste snow to my sleigh first, before adhering the pile of snowballs in front of the paper doll.
Adhere all your embellishments to the sleigh, along with a Christmas Paper Doll(TH94001) that has been tinted and a scarf added. The scarf is a piece of Mummy Cloth (TH93982) tinted. Also add Mummy cloth to the tag hole, with a story stick(TH93991 Adornments) and pine cone(TH93990 Festive Adornments). I've also added Rock Candy Clear Glitter to random areas of my vignette.
That's the end of my tutorial, hopefully I have remembered everything! Hope this inspires you to create your own Etcetera Sleigh Vignette, it would make a great gift or just a keepsake piece for yourself.
I still have some projects to share, so I hope you visit again!
