EMBROIDERY HOOP - TIM HOLTZ CREATIVATION 2019

Hello again everyone!  It's time to share my projects for the Tim Holtz Idea-ology Booth at Creativation 2019.  I'm going to start today with my Photobooth Embroidery Hoop.

I used a 12" wood embroidery hoop from the craft store for this project.
I love this new Photo Booth package (TH93799)!  I had just a few left from his original release, so I was happy he released a new set.  The photos are a great size to work with!

To start, I stained the hoop with Distress Vintage Photo Spray Stain. I applied Ranger's Crackle Paste  to the outside of the hoop and the front outer edge.  Once this dried, I applied Distress Vintage Photo Crayon in the cracks. While my hoop was drying, I started working on the strips.

Using Collage Paper (I used an older one, Floral-TH93707) and Plain(TH93708) I cut off pieces about 4" longer than my hoop. I taped down both ends of the Plain to my glass mat so it didn't move around.  I then applied Distress Vintage Collage Medium(TDA47940) all over this piece and then laid down the Floral piece on top.  I started carefully at one end to match up the sides. I lightly ran an Ink Brayer (roller) over top just to smooth out the sheets.  Then I applied another coat of Vintage collage Medium over top.  I used the Vintage medium to give it an antique look, but you could use the regular Collage Medium instead. I let this dry for a short time, just enough, so it was easy to peel off and hang up.  It dried faster this way and freed up my mat to repeat this on two more pieces. I wasn't sure how many I needed for my hoop and this turned out to be enough.  Once everything was dry, it had almost a pliable cloth texture thanks to the Collage Medium.  I then cut my strips 2" wide with a craft knife (helped to tape down the ends again).

After you have your strips all cut, weave them together on a flat surface.  I placed the hoop on top, just to figure out how I wanted to place them.  Once you have established the placement, glue with a clear adhesive, just a small amount in the center where each strip overlaps.  I then machine stitched vertically and horizontally across all the woven strips.  This is a photo of the backside of my hoop to give you a look at the stitching.  Place your woven piece on top of the inside hoop, apply a small amount of Collage Medium underneath on the hoop to secure the strips and carefully place the outside hoop on top.  Open the screw generously so it's easy to adjust the strips and then tighten, adjusting as you need to (doing so before the glue dries), making the woven strips look nice and flat. I hadn't trimmed off the excess paper strips yet, just in case one of the strips needed adjusting. I turned them to the inside, applied Collage Medium underneath and on top of the whole backside of the hoop. After it dried, I then trimmed my strips, but if you're braver than me, you could trim them first and then apply the Medium.  I then applied another coat of Collage Medium to the back, just to make it extra secure. (I had visions of the hoop coming apart at the show, so wanted to make it as secure as possible!)

I distressed the edges of my chosen Photo Booth photos and stitched down both sides before adhering to my hoop. To finish off my piece, I tinted some Typography letters (TH93584) with Alcohol Ink and adhered to my hoop with Collage Medium and added in the &(Ampersand) from the new Stencil Chips (TH93954).  There's also a Quote Chip (TH93563) and Metallic Quotation Stickers(TH93559).
That Completes my project!  I think I'm going to make another one using the new Travel Collage Paper (TH93950) which is a map, when that one arrives in February!  I wish we had taken more of these photobooth photos when we were growing up, love them!

Here's another look at my finished project! Hope you visit me again, I have more to share!

Thanks for visiting me and thank you so much for your kind and wonderful comments, they are much appreciated!

TIM HOLTZ SIZZIX CHAPTER 1 CARDS

Hello everyone!  I'm back today with the remainder of my cards created for the Tim Holtz Sizzix Chapter 1 release. I have enjoyed creating with this release so much, as I know all of you will too!

I did these cards back in October, November, so hopefully I can remember what I did! First up are two cards created with the Wildflower Stems #1 and Wildflower Stems #2 Thinlits sets. If you loved the previous Wildflower sets, you will love these slightly larger ones.  I die-cut my flower shapes for this card out of Tim Holtz Mixed Media cardstock.  I then covered my flowers with a light coat of Ranger's Crackle Paste. I let this air dry before colouring.  I use a combination of Distress crayons, Distress Markers applied with a Watercolour pen.  I apply a small amount of the crayon, then rub it into the crackled paper with a bit of water, usually using my fingers. Love how the crayons get into the cracks, highlighting them. I usually use a darker crayon in the cracks as it shows up a lot more.  I think I used the Stormy Sky, Tumbled Glass, Walnut Stain, Peeled Paint, Bundled Sage  crayons (sorry I didn't write it down!). Patterned papers from Wallflower, and cardstock are layered, stitched for my card base. A bit of ephemera, vellum ephemera and Clippings Stickers go on next.  A small frame die-cut with Stacked Baroque and Distressed Woodgrain cardstock, then treated with Distress Stain and Crackle paste to highlight my flowers is next.  The ribbon is stained with Distress Spray Stain.

These Wildflower Stems were die-cut from Mixed Media cardstock coloured with Distress Oxides. I believe I used Dried Marigold, Squeezed Lemonade, and Antique Linen.  The background paper is also from Wallflower(TH93110) and cardstock.  My sentiment is die-cut with Gold Metallic Kraft Cardstock and the Thin Sentiment Words Thinlits(661807) set, which sorry, I didn't realize has been retired. The Thin Alphanumeric Set is still available and a great 3/8" 121 pc set, same font! Using the Sizzix Sticky Grid sheets when lining up your letters, is a must have for me!  I added a painted Butterfly Adornment(TH93689) and stained ribbon, along with stained Tim Holtz Mummy Cloth.

I'm so attracted to these larger negative space (not sure if that's what you call them!) dies.  I've always admired those paper cut artists, how I wish I had the patience and talent like them; so I guess this is the next best thing!  When I have them in my hand, I'm always trying to think of different ways to use them.  I had created a card a long time ago using this layout, so I thought why not with this Organic Thinlits die. This die does not have an outer edge, so you determine how big you want your border.  I die-cut this out of a dark grey cardstock and cut out my two triangles on each end.  Because this is a rectangle shape, you won't be needing part of the middle section.  I just measured one side and marked the opposite side the exact same measurement.  With my craft knife, I just cut across. This 6 x 6 card worked well for the size of triangles I ended up with (about 1/4" border).  I just cut a strip of matching cardstock to adhere across the top, finishing off the triangles before adhering to my Wallflower patterned paper/cardstock mat.  I also stamped and die-cut foliage from the Flower Jar  Thinlits with matching stamps (CMS297).  The butterflies and bee are from Entomology stamp set(CMS328) and Entomology Framelits set.  These were lightly tinted with Distress Markers.  Add in a Small Talk Occasions(TH93245)sticker and some dyed ribbon and Bouquet Findings (TH93569) to complete your card.

This time, I used the Organic die in my background.  I die-cut it with Distress Mixed Media Cardstock cut to measure the width and height of my Etcetera 8 x 4 1/2" tag.  With no outer edge on this die, I can make it the exact size I want.  I placed the die where I wanted the pattern to sit on my tag.  Adhere this to your tag with Distress Collage Medium.  I then applied Ranger's Crackle Texture Paste all over, trying not to apply too heavy so you don't lose the detail and dimension of the die-cut.  In some of the recessed areas I wiped away a bit where I had too much and along the edge, I used more so the pattern blends into the edge.  Once dried, use Distress Crayons to colour.  I used Peeled Paint, Walnut Stain, Forest Moss and Antique Linen.  For my small frame, I die-cut with Stitched Rectangles and Distress Woodgrain Cardstock that was stained with Distress Stain Spray. I also applied Crackle Texture Paste to random parts of the frame, then coloured with Distress Crayons.  A piece of Ephemera behind the frame completes it.  I also die-cut a Flourish with the 3-D Flourish Impresslits Embossing folder in Mixed Media Cardstock, painted with Distress Paint.  My pink coloured trim was die-cut with the 3D Mini Provincial Impresslits Embossing Folder.  To finish off my tag, I coloured the Bouquet Flowers (TH93569), ribbon, and Mummy Cloth with Distress Spray stains, a piece of Fringe(93688) and adhered Clippings Stickers(TH93583) and a Botanical Paperie Butterfly(TH93554).

That's the rest of my Tim Holtz Sizzix Chapter 1 cards.  I have more to share from his Sizzix Chapter 2 release and all my projects for the Idea-ology Booth at Creativation, coming soon.  Hope you come back to visit me!  Make sure you check out the other designers who also created for Tim Holtz, he will be posting about that.  Their projects are so amazing!

Thanks so much for visiting,

GEO SPRINGTIME - TIM HOLTZ SIZZIX CHAPTER 1

Hello everyone!  Happy New Year! It's been awhile since I've posted anything, Christmas was busy as usual here.  Not only that, I have been busy working on some secret projects for Tim Holtz. Have you been watching any of his Sneak Peek Facebook Videos?  So many good products this year!  Tim released his Sizzix Chapter 1 dies this month which are already available. Love them all! Today I'm sharing a few cards made with the Geo Springtime Thinlits set.

Using the Butterfly die, I created this simple acrylic card.  The butterflies are die-cut from Mixed Media cardstock, also the Mini Scallop 3-D Impresslit borders.  When cutting the green cardstock back, cut it allowing for the top overhang (about 1-1/2") that you will score.  Cut out a piece of clear acrylic in your chosen card size, and adhere to the the back of the top folded over card front, then a piece of cardstock to the front and back on the bottom, and a piece on the top back.  Adhere the die-cut butterflies and Remnant Rubs Tiny Text sentiment to the card acrylic front.  On the inside of the card, I used a piece created with various Distress Oxide Inks on Alcohol Ink Glossy Paper and a light coat of Distress Micro Glaze(This glaze seals in and brings out the layers of vivid colours like magic). Scraptime has a video with Tim demonstrating at Creativation last year here. When I'm playing with different mediums or techniques, I always save the scraps of paper to use for future projects, comes in handy!

I also created two more cards with the hummingbird and rabbit from this set.

For the hummingbird, I die-cut my bird from Distress Mixed Media Cardstock that had been coloured with Distress Ink.  I traced the bird shape from my die onto white cardstock and cut the shape out on the inside of the line.  This makes the shape slightly smaller than the die-cut, but you might have to trim it a bit more.  Green cardstock was used for the Garden Greens thinlits.  These were adhered to my matted background (Tim Holtz Worn Wallpaper), then the bird pop-dotted on top. Hello Friend was die-cut from Tim Holtz Thin Pondering Words  Thinlits Set on White cardstock.  The words were matted on green cardstock, and the ends were snipped with scissors.  My pink background is stamped with Distress Ink and the Mesh & Linen (CMS221) stamp.

The rabbit was die-cut with yellow cardstock.  I then die-cut the rabbit again from Tim Holtz
Wallflower paper, but this time used the negative piece.  Make sure you have your paper size cut out and the rabbit die positioned where you want it on your background.  I used a piece of Wallflower vellum behind the rabbit.  Just cut out a piece slightly larger than your die-cut and adhere it to the back. To finish off my inside, I then die-cut another rabbit from a piece of paper, again using the negative piece.  This goes on the inside of your card, keep in mind that the backside is facing out and you have to match up the two die-cut shapes. 'Smile' was die-cut from Shadow Script #2 and my foliage is Wildflowers .

You can see how the patterned vellum shows up in the light.

I've shown you three different ways to use this one die, and I'm sure you can think of many others!
I've created more cards for this release, projects for his next Sizzix release and the Creativation Booth, so come back to visit!  I will be sharing soon!

Thanks so much for visiting me here!
