Gift Box and Card

I had a little gift for my mother-in-law and I wanted to wrap it or box it in something different.  After searching in my stash of boxes, (I am a collector of small or unusual boxes, or should I just say I'm a collector!) I found a paper mache book shaped one.  I'm pretty sure it was from Michael's, but I've had it for awhile so I could be wrong.  This is what it looks like finished, along with my matching card:
I used Pink Paislee's "London Market"collection and one paper called Remember, from Carta Bella's Beautiful Moments collection for these two pieces.  I wanted it to have a music theme as my mother-in-law plays the piano and loves music.
The main card is black cardstock, then Carta Bella Remember paper, and on top of that Pink Paislee paper that was embossed with Sizzix's Book Cover Texture Fade.  I lightly inked the raised areas and matted with the backside of the Remember paper.  Next I diecut an oval scallop with my Sizzix Oval Framelit with a paper from the London Market Collage Sheets pack.  I wanted to keep the butterfly and have it come off the scallop a bit, so I cut along the edge of the butterfly before I diecut my oval, and lifted it above the framlit so it would not be cut off.  I then fussy cut some flowers and leaves from the patterned paper, and diecut flowers using Sizzix's Tattered Pinecone and Tattered Flower Garland dies.
The music note is cut from the Sizzix Sheet Music Sizzlit die.  I used metal foil tape adhered first to smooth cardstock before I cut out the diecut.
After my music piece was cut out, I sanded it to scratch it up, then painted the foil piece with black paint and let dry.  I then sanded it lightly again to expose some of the silver underneath, then inked with Forest Moss distress ink.  I wiped a few areas lightly, and then heat set it.
Adhere all your flowers and the music sheet, add in a sentiment (this "Just Because" is a Kaiser rub-on) and it's done.

The Gift box was decorated with the same dies, but I added some bling from Prima.  I first painted the entire paper mache box and drawer with Black Gesso.  This way I didn't have to worry about bringing the paper right to the edges, especially with the drawer opening and closing.  I lined the drawer bottom and sides with London Market Paper.  The front, back and sides were also covered with London Market.  The end of the drawer, was covered with a piece of a London Market collage sheet which had the title, Musical Evening that fit perfect.  After looking at these photos, I should mention that the book box is about 5" by 4" and 2 1/2" wide (it looks bigger in the photo) and the card is 5" x 7".
I had fun covering that box, I think I should try and find another one!
Until next time,

Sizzix Cupcake Treat Boxes

Hi everyone, this weekend on the Sizzix blog, they are featuring one of their very talented licensed designers, Eileen Hull. Make sure you visit and enter for a giveaway!  I've been playing with  the Cupcake Ruffle Holder die and I think I am addicted! Instead of just using it to hold real cupcakes I've turned these into treat boxes.

There are so many different mediums and themes possible with these, but these three are the ones I have finished so far.  My favorite one was the embossed one at the back.  Doesn't that look like real icing?  It's actually light molding paste, put on with a small spatula over a  styrofoam ball!
First I diecut the cupcake base using Sizzix Little Sizzles (awesome white mat-board) and then I ran it through my machine using the Sizzix Dots and Flowers Textured Impressions.  You will have to run it in two spots as the die is longer than the embossing folder. Next I painted it with Ranger's Metallic Gold paint dabber.  I forgot to take a photo of the cupcake bottom, which I also embossed and painted. You need to use a metallic paint as your base so the paint in the next step will wipe off.
Let this dry, then paint with a thick coat of black paint, wiping off  the extra wet paint with a damp paper towel, so you are left with it just in the low areas and in the creases of the embossed areas.  Lightly sand and then ink in your chosen color or colors, wiping of the excess. I used Ranger's Fired Brick and Rusty Hinge Distress ink.
I cut out this same diecut in a patterned paper for the inside, as I wanted it to look nice when opened(I make such a mess when I am inking!).  With the two wrong sides together, glue them together and attached with small brads.  To finish it off, ink the edges.
Next, for the cupcake top, I purchased a package of 3" styrofoam balls and cut them in half.  For this cupcake, I took a small painting spatula and iced my styrofoam, let dry(it takes awhile, I let it dry overnight).
After it was dry, I lightly sprayed it with a colored spray(Lindy's Stamp Gang)  To finish off your top, use the top to trace a circle onto matching patterned paper, cut out(I used decorative scissors) and adhere to the flat surface.  I used Diamond Glaze so it would stick better onto the styrofoam.  Add a decorative stick pin and ribbon, fill it with your favorite treat and it's all done.
The other two cupcake holders were cut out using heavier glitter paper (I think these ones that I used was by American Crafts)
I again lined the inside with patterned paper cut out using the Cupcake Ruffle die and cut out a circle for the bottom of the styrofoam top.  I added a small border along the bottom using the Sizzix Tim Holtz  sizzlit Vintage Lace die and patterned paper.  The flowers were made from vellum and the Tim Holtz Tattered Flower Garland Sizzlit Die.  After adhering them to the top, I lightly sprayed them with a cream colored spray(Lindy's again).
For this last cupcake holder, I covered my styrofoam top and the inside of the holder with torn pieces of printed tissue paper. If you sand the edges of the scallops, it trims off excess tissue and then ink.  I then sewed about 1/2" wide strips of the tissue paper and then gathered them for the edge of the top.  To give it an aged look, I rubbed on a Mica Gloss from Judikins on the gathered strip, top and inside.  Glue the gathered tissue around the edge. The little butterflies and the patterned ones were cut out from Kaiser patterned paper.  The other two butterflies were cut out from Tim Holtz's mini butterflies movers and shapers. They were also sprayed with colored spray.  I attached a couple of the butterflies with very thin gold wire and another one with a Tim Holtz pin.
I hope I've explained everything and have inspired you to try your own.  Don't forget to visit the Sizzix blog and enter their giveaway, plus see what the other design team members have created with Eileen's dies!
Have a great weekend!
