DRESSMAKER'S BIRTHDAY CARD

Hello everyone, it's been awhile!  I've made a birthday card here using one of the new Tim Holtz Stamper's Anonymous sets.

This stamp set is the Inventor #3(CMS342) from the Inventor series.  This image was stamped on Ranger's Tim Holtz Watercolour Cardstock.  It was lightly tinted with Distress Oxide inks and a water brush.

My black frame was created with Sizzix's Tim Holtz Stacked Label Thinlits Set (662695) which is available the end of April.  The flowers were made with Sizzix's Tim Holtz Funky Florals #3(662702) also available at the end of April.

The frame was created with three die-cuts (the negative part) of the Stacked Label cut from thin chipboard.  These were glued together to create a thicker frame.  I applied Black Gesso, then dry brushed a couple of lighter colours f paint.  Next I  drew a gold, then black line close to the inner edge with markers.  I applied lightly, Black Distress paint, then dry brushed my two other colours to fade the lines, giving my frame an antique look.  The flowers were die-cut with a floral foam sheet.  The tag was created with Tim Holtz Metallic Sticker (TH93335) and Tiny Text Remnant Rubs(TH93695).  Those little button flowers centers were some old button brads I had in my stash.

FLOWERS MAKE ME SMILE

Hello everyone!  I've been catching up on my card making lately.  Here's another one using products from Tim Holtz, Sizzix, and Stampers Anonymous.

I've used the Stampers Anonymous Tim Holtz Flower Jar Stamp set, which there are matching Sizzix Flower Jar Framelits.  These stamps are quite detailed so it's great that there are dies to cut them out.

I stamped the larger jar image three times.

One image will be die-cut for the complete image, one for the trim around the jar and the other for the lid(which I die-cut the whole image, then hand cut the lid out).  I also die-cut a jar out of a piece of thin acrylic.

I usually tape the small die with washi tape to hold it in place before die-cutting.

After cutting out the lid, I made a slit through the middle, to put the foliage and flowers through.  This is adhered to the die-cut jar.  I coloured the acrylic jar die-cut with alcohol ink and then cut off the top of the jar(you don't need this part). Adhere this to the jar front, using Glossy Accents, then the twine die-cut on top.

The Glossy Accents underneath the plastic looks kind of watery.  Because the foliage images are very intricate, you will still get a bit of background paper after die-cutting(in this case, white). If that bothers you, just use a light greyish marker, ink or watercolour on those white parts, which dulls the white and gives it a bit of a shadow.

My circles are die-cut from the new Tim Holtz Stitched Circle Framelits.  I've removed the outer stitched part of the patterned circle creating a zigzag edge.

Adhere all the layers you have cut out to your card base, using pop dots on some of them. My patterned papers are from Blue Fern Studios.

I painted some Tim Holtz Typography letters (TH93584) with Ripe Persimmon, Evergreen Bough and Fired Brick Distress paint for my "Smile" word.  Also used was a lightly painted Ruler Piece (TH93565), ribbon and Ephemera Snippets (TH93564).

Village on a Box

Hello there! I have been patiently waiting (that's really hard for some of us scrapbookers) for quite a few dies I had ordered from Sizzix and so I was happy to see most of them arrive a month ago!

Sizzix heaven, right?  Usually when I get a new die, I want to use it right away, but this many is a little overwhelming!  I'm slowing making my way through them, June was such a busy month and not much time for crafting.  I'm hoping July will be different!

It's been awhile since I've created a 3-d project, it seems like I usually find time only for cards or layouts lately.  Not that I don't like creating those, but I like getting lost in the creation of something a little more.  In that wonderful pile, was the new Tim Holtz Village Brownstone, Village Rooftops, and Village Bungalow dies that were the inspiration for this project.  I have a tutorial here with lots of photos, enjoy!

I wanted to make a grouping of houses on a base, and I ended up covering a box to place my houses on.  The papers I used were from Blue Fern Studio's beautiful collection, 'Tranquility".

This was just a 7 3/4" x 7 1/4" x 2 1/4"deep paper mache box.  I gessoed the edges, then painted them with Distress paint, a combination of Stormy Sky and Black Soot before covering with paper.

I also covered the inside of the box.  Love this woodgrain paper in the Tranquility collection!  

I built two Village Brownstones and a Village Dwelling, with my patterned paper.  I die-cut the walls first.  There is directions on the back of the package, but there is also PDF instructions on the Sizzix website, right next to the die photo. 

I die-cut the window frames and roof with a different colour of paper so they would contrast.  The frames were then adhered to my house.

I cut small pieces of Tim Holtz Tissue and glued these to the inside of the windows.

Once I had my windows and doors finished, I adhered the wall of the house together.  I applied tape to the tabs at the top of the house, for the roof.

Now for the Village Rooftops!  I cut out the twelve strips and one ridge cap for each roof. These were lightly sanded and inked before adhering to the roof.

After my shingles were adhered, I die-cut the chimneys and adhered them to each roof.

Next, came the Village Bungalow accents.  I die-cut two dormer windows for one of the brownstones.  There is also shuttered windows, which I die-cut two for one of the other houses.  Fence pieces were also die cut.

Here is a photo of my finished Village Dwelling house.  I added the shuttered window die-cuts to each side after I took this photo.

Here's all three completed houses. That tiny doorknob on the middle house is a Tim Holtz Hex Fastener (TH93268). The houses are ready for my box base.

I decided to put legs on the box.  These are Tim Holtz Metal Box Feet Foundations(TH92821).  These were applied with Ranger's Matte Medium.  Isn't it amazing how a set of legs can change an ordinary box into an amazing piece.

I had a thin round metal filigree piece (I think it was from Fab Scraps) that bent very easily to fit over the edge for decoration.  It was attached with a rhinestone brad.  Now the box is ready for my houses.

I was going to hot glue the houses to the box top, but didn't want the glue to show.  So I cut small strips of paper, bent them in half, then hot glued these to the bottom as shown.  The hot glue was applied to the bottom of the strips and then my houses were adhered to the box.

The fences were bent slightly so they were curved, and then adhered in-between the houses.

I die-cut many little flowers using Sizzix's Tim Holtz Tattered Flower Garland Decorative Strip die and the Tim Holtz Tiny Tattered Floral Thinlits set. The light ones were die-cut with cream cardstock and lightly inked with Squeezed Lemonade and Hickory Smoke Distress Ink.  I usually use my hot glue gun to adhere the bottoms of the Tiny Tattered Florals so they stay secured when rolled with a Quilling Tool that comes with the set.

I also die-cut a few pieces from Sizzix's Tim Holtz Wildflowers Thinlits Set for my flower clusters.

I hot glued the flowers on the inside of the fence pieces and a few on the outside.

Valentine's Card Tutorial

Hello there! Valentine's Day will be here before we know it and today I have a card tutorial for you for some inspiration.

 

I decided to make a different shaped card using a Sizzix Framelits Hexagon die.

This Hexagon Framelits Plus set is a new large set made for the Big Shot Plus or Pro Machines.  There are 15 pieces in this set, the largest is 7 3/4" x 8 7/8" and the smallest is 3/4" x 3/4".  I used a framelits that measured 6 x 5 1/4" for my card base.  This size still fit into my Big Shot or Vagabond machine, but the larger sizes require a machine with a larger width.  I folded a piece of patterned paper (Blue Fern's Blush collection) in half and lightly taped the framelits on top.

I let the top edge overhang so it doesn't cut out on the edge.

I place the edge just outside of the folded paper.

Here's what the card base looks like after die-cutting.  The Sizzix Sandwich I used for die-cutting framelits is Magnetic Platform Base, Standard Cutting Pad, Paper, Die, Standard Cutting Pad.

For my large heart I used Sizzix's Layered Valentine Bigz die.  The scalloped heart was die-cut with vellum and the plain heart was with thin chipboard.

For my chipboard heart I used a Ranger Embossing Dabber over the entire surface.  I then applied embossing powder(Lindy's Chateau Rose), heat, then repeated with another layer of embossing powder.  While this was still hot I had a rubber (not Acrylic) Tim Holtz Flower Garden(CMS215) stamp waiting and pressed it into the melted embossing powder and then removed.  That is how I got the impression on the left side.  I than applied a glittered embossing powder(Cotton Candy from Blue Fern) on the right side.

On the front of my card I drew a line all the way around the card with an embossing pen and then applied embossing powder (Lindy's Cafe` au Lait). 

My flowers were created with patterned paper and vellum.  I used Sizzix's Tim Holtz Tattered Floral Bigz die for the vellum ones.  These were edged with the Ranger Embossing Dabber and then embossing powder (Chateau Rose') applied.  The others were die-cut from the Tim Holtz Tiny Tattered Florals Thinlits Die(my favourite!).

I also hand cut some flowers and small envelope from my patterned paper.  I adhered these first, then pop dotted my heart, and adhered the die-cut flowers.  My die-cut word, "love" was die-cut from the Sizzix Tim Holtz Celebration Script Word Thinlits die, then embossing powder(Lindy's Cafe' au Lait) applied.

Here's another look at my card.  I really like this hexagon shape for a change, might have to make a few more!
