April Monthly Challenge

It seems like I just finished posting about Urban Scrapbook's March monthly challenge and here it is April's already!  Although you would never think it is April if you live here, this is what I woke up to yesterday morning:

At least the sun came out by the afternoon, and it all started to melt!

This month our kits included Bo Bunny's Weekend Market papers, jewels, trinkets and buttons.  Our sketch, done by Lynette, calls for 4 photos.  Here's my layout for April's Challenge:

One of the items that I included in the kits, was a piece of corrugated cardstock. I gave all the design team a challenge to make an embellishment out of it.  I was really looking forward to seeing what everyone came up with and they did not disappoint!  After playing around with my corrugated piece, this is what I ended up with:

I cut very thin strips, across the corrugated, one end not quite 1/4 inch, narrowing down to a tip at the other end.  I started rolling the wider end, right to the thin end, and then glued it in place.  Lynette says they remind her of barnacles or something that you would find on the beach.  That's exactly what I was going for with my photos of the Bay of Fundy Hopewell Rocks.  Last October, my husband and I went  here for the first time and loved it.  Unfortunately, it started pouring and we were soaked!  Luckily the tide was out and we were able to walk around the rocks for a short time.  There were only three other people out there (it was off season and who else would go out in a downpour!) and we were all a little nervous, the tide comes in really fast.  The Bay of Fundy has the highest tides in the world, when it's in it's all the way to the top of these rocks.  It is so beautiful, I would love to go back when it's not raining.
All the diecut pieces of paper were cut using Tim Holtz On the Edge dies by Sizzix.  The dies were; File Tabs, Ornate, and Brackets.  I cut them out of patterned paper and cardstock and then layered them, just showing a little bit of each paper.  When I'm layering different patterned papers, I find that placing just a small bit of solid in between (you don't need much) separates the patterns and they don't look so busy, plus the patterns stand out on their own.
I hope you check out Urban's website and check out all the Design Team's April layouts, they are amazing!
And, speaking of amazing,  you have to see the carrot treat boxes Jeanne Streiff created on the Sizzix blog.  Perfect for Easter!

Have a great weekend!
