MYRON TOMBSTONE - TIM HOLTZ SIZZIX HALLOWEEN 2022

Hello everyone!  I’m sharing another project created for the Tim Holtz Sizzix Halloween 2022 release.  Colorize animal Thinlits are so fun to create with and Myron the frog is a great addition to the collection!

 Myron comes with a cute mushroom too, of course I couldn’t stop at one!  Sizzix has step by step YouTube videos on their Colorize Hub Section for every Colorize die set, which I highly recommend watching. 

I wanted my tombstone to look like it was carved stone, so I  used the Acorns 3D Embossing Folder  on the textured side of Distress Water-colour cardstock.  I decided to use the circle embossing plate from the  Embossing Diffuser Set#1 to eliminate any embossing in the centre, so I could add in my letters.  This plate replaces a cutting/embossing plate.

The embossing will only occur around the open circle. 

               I've used a mini Etcetera Halloween Tombstone tag(approx. 4 1/2 x 8") from Stampers Anonymous for my base.  This set is the tag, plus a top and bottom add-on.

To colour my tag, I lightly sprayed with Distress Oxide and Distress sprays. I like to give my cardstock a bit of colour before embossing, and then after, adding a small amount so it gathers into the grooves, highlighting the embossed areas. I tried to keep it lighter in the middle, using Antique Linen, Frayed Burlap, and Walnut Stain(I think) near the edges. My embossed cardstock was adhered to the tag, It's slightly shorter in length, but the top and bottom will be covered by the tombstone add-ons.

Using the Alphanumeric Thin set, I die-cut the words, In Memory Of.  This was from coloured Distress cardstock, similar to the tombstone.  I’ve added a small amount of Distress Grit Paste around and over some of the letters. When I applied the grit paste, colour from my Distress sprayed paper seeped through to the paste. I didn’t mind this, as it gives my tombstone a more aged look. If you don’t want any seepage in between layers of your mixed media project, I would recommend applying a small amount of Distress Micro Glaze on your bottom layer.  This glaze is a water resistant sealer, so it will stop the colour seeping into your glaze.  

I did the same embossing with a diffuser on a small piece for the top piece of my tombstone. This time I used the oval diffuser plate.

There is a border that goes on top.  This I painted with Distress paint (Frayed Burlap) and  it will be adhered to the top of my tag. 

The bottom piece was also painted. Grit Paste was applied in the corner and on the frame.  I had used last year's Halloween Grit Paste (I actually had some left!) but this year's Cr ypt paste would have the same effect, slightly different colour with a black fleck (TSHK81081) or even the Translucent Grit Paste (TDA71730).  I tinted it in areas with a very small amount brown Distress paint and a lightly touch of Antique linen across the raised areas.  The Grit paste was also applied the same way to my bottom piece.

An Idea-ology Deco Frame Adornment (a bit of dark Alcohol Ink applied in areas)was adhered (with Collage Medium) with a Halloween Remnant Rub inside the frame(TH94268).  Grit Paste was also applied around the frame.

 

Once you have the top and bottom pieces adhered, I hot glued dried moss along the edges.

I used the Kraft Stock Cool Stack paper(TH94110) which is greens and earthy colours, and Black for Myron. This was sanded lightly. The mushrooms were from Distress Heavystock that was coloured with Distress Sprays and Oxides. For added interest, I applied some Translucent Grit Paste to Myron's belly with an older Tim Holtz stencil (Dot Fade THS006), slightly tinted with a very small amount of green Distress spray or ink. It's a bit tricky to apply, but you can wipe away or scrap off any excess in areas you don't want it. Let this dry. After I had my Myron Frog and Mushrooms assembled, these were adhered to my tag (foam adhesive squares for dimension) and moss also tucked in everywhere. 

A Halloween Remanent Rub (dearly departed and a decorative scroll from an old set) was applied to the bottom piece.  You are done!

OTIS ETCETERA TAG - TIM HOLTZ SIZZIX HALLOWEEN 2022 RELEASE

 Hello everyone!  I’m sharing my first project created for the Tim Holtz Sizzix Halloween 2022 release.  Tim’s YouTube videos are always available to watch for all his releases and the link to his channel and the makers projects are on his blog here.

I love anything with moons and pumpkins, so how could I not use these two new Colorize sets, Otis(665998) and Pumpkin Duo (665999) together! 

 I have used the  Small Etcetera Tag Thickboard (THETC-003) for my base.  This tag measures 10" x 5 1/2".  I still wanted a shadowbox effect, so I used Etcetera Scallop Trims (THETC -008) around the edge.

You will have to cut a few to make them fit.  I've glued them around the tag with Distress Collage Medium.  Once the medium has dried and everything is secure, paint with Distress Paint (Ground Espresso).

I've cut a piece of Distress Watercolor Cardstock to fit inside the scalloped edges.  Using the Stampers Anonymous CMS293 Brushstrokes stamp set, I've stamped with yellow ink (Squeezed Lemonade) and embossed with Fossilized Amber Embossing Glaze.

Now my stamped image is embossed, it will resist the Distress sprays used on the background.  This image is going to be behind the Otis moon die-cut.

The stars are die-cut into my background, using Sizzix's Falling Stars Thinlits set (664732) and a Sizzix Diffuser (657945).  These diffusers are retired, but you might have this set in your stash or a scrapbook company might still have them.  These plates have a shape cut out in the middle or the shape itself, and are used instead of your top embossing plate.  In the middle of this plate, there is a circle cut out, and when used as your top embossing plate, it will not die-cut where the negative space is, as there is nothing there to press into the die.  So my stars are die-cut on my paper except where the circle shape is.  Some of them did not die-cut all the way through, but I liked the effect of having just the outline in the paper. 

Next I coloured the background with various sprays.  I've used Walnut Stain Distress Spray, Seedless Preserves spray and Oxide spray, the new Distress Mica Stain sprays; Fortune Teller, Decayed and Harvest Moon.

I love these new Mica Stain Sprays, I know the photo doesn't pick up the shine enough, but the shimmer is beautiful!

I've gathered up some Stampers Anonymous stamps to add to my background. The sets used are; Halftone & Rings CMS260, Classics #16 SCF016, and Regions Beyond CMS274.

The images were stamped with Villainous Potion Archival Ink (AITK75127), then embossed with Antique Linen Embossing Glaze.

A small amount of Statue Foundry Wax (Kit 2 TDAK80442) was used randomly on the raised areas of the embossed images. 

My Colorize Otis and Pumpkins were then cut out.  I've coloured my Distress White Heavystock (TDA76322) with different yellows and oranges in Distress Sprays, Mica Stain Sprays and Oxide Sprays.  The best way to learn how to assemble the Colorize Dies is on the Sizzix YouTube Channel.

Here's a close up of my pumpkin duos. Halloween Mica Stain adds some nice shimmer!

This is a piece of heavy stock coloured with Distress greens and the new Mica Wicked Elixir Mica Stain.  Look at that shimmer!  This was used for the stems of the pumpkins.

I've adhered a piece of Metallic Kraftstock behind the upper part of the background paper, where the stars are cut out.  This was then adhered to my Etcetera Tag.

Adhere Otis in front of the stamped yellow image with foam adhesive squares.

A coloured paper doll (the miniature size) was adhered to the moon.  I've also added transparency bat wings to the paper doll girl (TH94235).

Distress Halloween Crypt Paste TSHK81081 was added to the sides and top of the Etcetera tag, and also on the inside.  After the Crypt paste had dried, I applied a small out of Translucent Crackle Paste (TDA79651) in a few places.

At the top of the tag, I've added an Halloween Bat Adornment (TH94250), just above the hole and a small spider adornment (TH94250). These were coloured slightly with Mined Foundry Wax (TDAK80435). Also, Pumpkins(TH94267) were painted a darker orange, highlighted with a touch of Burning Ember Mica Stain  (TSHR81098).  Funky Foliage Thinlits die-cut with green coloured Distress Heavystock (Rustic Wilderness Distress Spray and Burning Ember Mica Stain).  Spanish moss and coloured Mummy Cloth (TH94155) were added.

Another Paper Doll with an added Bat Wing Transparency was adhered to the bottom corner, next to the Pumpkin Duo. Bats were die-cut from the Otis Colorize set. More Funky Foliage pieces and spanish moss complete the bottom.

And just because I always like to see some crackly goodness, here's a photo of one of the sides.

The back was covered with a piece of Halloween Backdrops paper.  This was from last year, but there is a new stack this year(TH94251).

I have more Halloween to share in the coming weeks.  It's been a crazy week, so I'm a little behind.  We became grandparents this week to our second granddaughter.  It was a bit of a surprise, she was two weeks early!  Mom had a bit of a health scare, but both are now doing well.  I've been doing some quick sewing for the new little one, now on to some fall things for her big sister!

HELLO LIFE ETCETERA TAG - TIM HOLTZ RANGER ARCHIVAL INK 2022 RELEASE

Hello everyone!  It's another Tim Holtz YouTube Saturday reveal, and this week it's all about new Ranger Ink Mini Archival Ink Kits! There are three new sets(Kit 4, 5, & 6), each with an assortment of 4 colours.  Love these mini sizes!  Archival ink is waterproof, acid free and a permanent oil-based dye ink.  These inks are permanent on many surfaces, they will not bleed when used with water-based inks, markers, paints (watercolour and acrylic),  and also liquid adhesives.

I've created this tag showing how you can colour with Archival ink and a stencil. I've created an image that did not smear or bleed when other mediums were used in my project. 

I've used a Stampers Anonymous Etcetera Thickboard Mini Tag (THETC-004) and collaged this with various pieces of patterned papers.  I have covered my tag with Distress Collage Medium and then adhered the paper, applying the collage medium over top also.  This gives it a finished surface and there isn't any loose edges on the papers.  Trim the edges to fit the tag.

I have used Tim Holtz Plain Collage Paper (TH93708) as my base to which I applied my archival ink.

This paper has been retired, but if you're like me, you seem to have a stash of everything Tim, or there could still be some out there in stores.  I've taped my piece to my glass mat with masking tape to stop it from moving.  The reason I've used collage paper with my stencilled image, is because I wanted my collaged background to fade behind and just slightly show through.

I've applied my chosen colours( Fired Brick, Crackling Campfire, Wild Honey, Speckled Egg, and a small amount of Villainous Potion and Frayed Burlap) to my Blossom Stencil (THS031).  I have used Tim's Blending Brushes(TDA62240) to apply the ink.  The open areas in the stencil aren't really large, so the blending brush can get into the corners and your image is sharper.  Plus, the brush creates a

softer blend of colours. Archival ink will stain, so to clean your stamps or brushes, use some Archival Stamp Cleaner. Because this ink is waterproof and oil-based, water will not work. 

Once your archival inked image has dried, it's ready to adhere with Distress Collage Medium.  Apply to your tag, the medium first, then gently lay the stencilled paper on top.  This paper, once wet, tears easily (which is great when you want torn edges!).  Apply Collage Medium on top.  That's the beauty of Archival Ink, when using different mediums with it, your inking will not smudge or bleed. If I had used Distress Ink (which is water-based), it would have bled when I added the Collage Medium. The Collage paper becomes more transparent when saturated, leaving your stencil image more pronounced.

Trim off the edges, after your paper has dried.

I've stamped a quote from Stampers Anonymous Set Classic#16 SCF016 with Frayed Burlap Archival Ink on a small piece of Collage paper and applied this in the same way as the stencilled blossoms, across the tag. I have also added a few darker spots of Villianous Potion archival ink to the edge of some of my flowers with a fine paint brush. I apply some ink directly from the pad to my glass mat (not the small non-stick white mat) and dip the fine paint brush in this. 

After, I've inked the edges of the tag with Frayed Burlap. I've also added an Antiqued Gem(TH94033) and A Lock & Key Adornment (TH94162) with a bit of Grit Paste and paint added.  If you want to add more layers or detail and dimension to your tag, you could highlight with markers, paint, or ink and your Archival ink will not bleed.

BERNICE ETCETERA TAG - TIM HOLTZ SIZZIX CHAPTER 2 RELEASE

Hello everyone!  Today I’m sharing another Tim Holtz project created for his Sizzix Chapter 2 YouTube reveal.  If you missed the reveal, you can catch up here!

For those of you who love the Sizzix Colorize animals, Bernice the hippo is a fun and great addition to the collection.

I've used a Medium Thickboard Etcetera Tag(6 1/2 x 12) as my main base.  This was covered with cut up sections of Idea-ology Backdrops Paper and 2 Salvage Tags.  I glued together my pieces, then trimmed to the tag measurements.  Before adhering to the tag base, I machine stitched around the edge and zigzagged stitched in random places.

Next came the small Mini Thickboard Tag (4/12 x 8").  This was covered first in a small floral from the Backdrops paper pack, then a piece of Kraftstock which was die-cut with the new Folk Flowers Thinlits die. I found that the tinier the pattern of the paper used, made it stand out behind the kraftstock. Two pieces were needed to cover the tag, so there is a seam near the top, but this was mostly covered up by the trees. You can always place the seam near the bottom, as Bernice will cover it, but at this point, I wasn't sure where I was going to position everything.  This was lightly sanded also, then the tag adhered to the main base. A small B(for Bernice) was embossed and cut out from the 3D Type Embossing Folder and Metallic Kraftstock. The 'B' was lightly sanded and a bit of Alcohol ink added to age it. This was stapled over a piece of Linen Fabric Tape and adhered over the tag hole 

A Lace Baseboard Frame was coloured with Distress Crayons (mostly Bundled Sage with a bit of Dried Marigold and Tea Dye).  This was glued to the small tag, hanging over the edge, to offset Bernice.  I also wanted to tuck flowers underneath it.

These die-cut Funky Trees were made with Mixed Media Heavystock, coloured with Distress Oxides (different shades of light greens and yellows, using Old Paper, Squeezed Lemonade, Bundled Sage).  The pieces used for the top layers on the trees were embossed with the 3D Engraved folder. This is actually a winter snowflake folder, but because they are small pieces, you can't tell.  It adds another dimension to the trees, and if you want the embossing to show up a little more, spray a bit more Oxide colour on and let it get into the creases.  Adhere your trees, trying to place them so they cover most of your seam. 

Usually I use ribbon, or Mummy Cloth for the hole in my tags, but I decided to take advantage of the O, with my theme of April Showers and I really wanted to use one of the new Numbers dies.  So the tag ring was covered in scraps of my Backdrops paper, the number 2 was die-cut and a Uppercase H was die-cut from the Stretch Upper Alphanumeric dies.  H₂0!

Now we can add in Bernice!  She's so lovable looking, isn't she? I have used various shades of Kraftstock, all in the same tone.  I love these new packs of Idea-ology 6 x 9" Kraftstock, which come in three different sets, they don't have texture and distress so nice.  There is a Warm, Cool, and Neutral set, each has a total of 24 sheets, 8 different colours.  Perfect for those projects that you would like different shades, especially the Colorize Animals or even flowers.  I hope that eventually there will be different sets, would love different shades of yellows, pinks, etc.  I've used the Warm set for Bernice.  I haven't gone into how she was constructed, as Sizzix has great step by step videos for each of their Colorize sets here.  

Bernice needed an umbrella with all that rain, so I used the umbrella from Tim's set, The Gent.  I added in the throw away pieces from the frame piece, molded them with my Tim Holtz Shaping kit, so my umbrella looks puffier.  The only reason being, is because I loved those Oxide splotches, couldn't let them go to waste! lol!  The umbrella handle fit perfectly into Bernice's mouth.

For my raindrops, I used the Media Marks Thinlits set.  I alcohol inked a piece of clear acrylic with light blue/greens and then die-cut.  These were adhered randomly with Distress Collage Medium.

To finish off my tag, I coloured different Mixed Media Heavystock pieces with various Distress Oxide colours (mostly Dried Marigold, Brushed Corduroy, Tea Dye, Kitsch Flamingo) and die-cut these sheets with my most well used sets, the Tiny Tattered Florals and Small Tattered Florals Thinlits sets.  These flowers were also shaped with the Tim Holtz Shaping kit and adhered above the lace frame and below.  I've used different beads from sets of Sizzix Making Essential Sequins and Beads sets.  I've also added a few clippings(words to go with flowers) from the Idea-ology Clippings Sticker Book.

I've added a little quote in the corner, using the Tiny Type Upper and Lower Alphanumeric thinlits sets and leftovers from my Oxide coloured Mixed Media Heavystock (apply adhesive sheets to the back before die-cutting, makes it so much easier!)

And that my friends, is how I created this Bernice Etcetera Tag! I hope this inspires you to use those older dies with your new ones.   I have used quite a few dies, but I'm sure you have ones that you can substitute if you don't have all of these. There are so many embellishments you can create to go specifically with your colour scheme and project.  Who would ever think that the embossing on the trees is actually snowflakes?  You will be surprised going through your embossing folders, how different they look when using just a small section of them.

Here's to all the flowers that April showers bring, but I wonder what April snow storms bring?  We had a big one a couple of weekends ago, then it warmed up after to some nice hot weather and now we're heading into colder days again, hopefully the forecast is wrong, and there's no snow.  There's no leaves on the trees yet, so at least nothing has been frozen.  It feels like it's taking forever for the leaves and flowers to come out!  I hope you are having better weather than us, wherever you are!
